Do you need to draw to be a graphic designer? Anne and I discuss this topic and it seems it comes down to a few details that we can share with you to help you understand the need for drawing in graphic design. What do you need for graphic design, is drawing one of those key skills that will make or break your graphic design career?
1. Being a graphic designer that can draw will help you to quickly and easily formulate the ideas you have in your head and put them onto paper to further hash out the design concept you have.
IS drawing absolutely necessary to become a graphic designer? No, but you will find it much easier to create designs when you have a basic understanding of how to draw.
2. What level of drawing skills are good enough for a graphic designer to have? When it comes to being a graphic designer that can draw it is all about bring your concept to life. Can you sketch out your ideas in a way that help you move from concept to finished product quickly. Drawing is an extremely helpful skill to have because it breaks down the barrier between design idea to finished product.
3. Drawing is the gateway to furthering your skills. When you start to grasp the ability to draw and concept with your sketches you will see a wall come down in your mind. There will be ideas you will be able to flesh out better before you had your drawing skills at your finger tips.
So in conclusion do graphic designers need to know how to draw? NO. But if you want to become a better graphic designer you need to push yourself to become better at drawing to become a better graphic designer.
